Be the Bridge, Not the Troll

What started out as an anti-bullying conversation with my husband became an idea for a new t-shirt. Raising kids should be thought of as training up & coming adults.  I made these people, and now I’m responsible for sending them into the world and cultivating an understanding about how to treat others.  Don’t take crap from people.  Also, don’t give people crap.  Be nice.  Help out.  Always do the right thing.  Compassion, education, & contemplation.  In that order.  These things will take you far.  If you have something that someone could benefit from, share it.  If you see cruelty in...

Creating Creativity

I have no business writing about creativity.  I can't tell someone how to be creative, where ideas come from, or how they materialize into amazing, finished pieces of great work. What I can do is share.  I think this transcends from childhood into adulthood, and if you happen to be raising spawn; it's so incredibly important.  That being said, I have no intention of being a "mom blogger." From Wisconsin?!

So, my big plan for this post was to make a list of Wisconsin celebrities.  My research unveiled two things:  This has been done way too many times.  I was completely in the dark about some of these people, and I'm still in shock.   I'm going to abandon the original plan and just list the people that really surprised me.  So, without further adieu: 1. Liberace - A West Allis native!  I had no idea.  I cannot believe West Allis has not changed its name to reflect this fact and  maybe grasp at a name that gives the illusion...

T-Shirts? Really?

“Not everybody will get it. People will misinterpret you and what you do. They might even call you names. So get comfortable with being misunderstood, disparaged, or ignored -- the trick is to be too busy doing your work to care.”-Austin Kleon, Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative I’ve always loved T-shirts.  Not just buying and wearing them, but gifting them to other people.  I also really enjoy thinking of T-shirt ideas in my head; funny quips, word puzzles, quotes, cool patterns, etc.  I converted a few of my ideas to T-shirts for myself and...

Thank you, Marlon Brando

Thank you, Marlon Brando

T-shirts were originally designed for union laborers as an under garment to be worn beneath their uniforms. They were universally considered underwear, rarely ever worn in public.  In the late 1800s, it was illegal to wear them as a stand alone garment in public!    The lightweight undergarment was quickly adopted by the military to be worn under uniforms, but could be worn alone at the discretion of the commanding officer.  After WWI, soldiers would return home, taking this new fashion with them. The popularity of a t-shirt as an outer garment further surged thanks to Marlon Brando and his role as Stanley...
